Photos from
the University of North Dakota
Elwyn Robinson Department of Special Collections
For a
couple of years Curt Hanson & I had talked
about the posibility of having a student scan
the theatre photos in Special
Collections. Unfortunately, time and
students did not line up and the project was
put on hold.
Finally, during the Summer of 2009 the planets
aligned. The Department of Theatre Arts
and Elwyn Robinson Department of Special
Collections worked on a cooperative project to
scan over 500 photographs taken between about
1910 and 1980. Theatre Arts supplied a
student to do the scanning. Special
Collections opened up their collection and
supplied the equipment needed for
scanning. Good resolution scans were
taken for this website and higher resolution
images were taken for use by Special
Collections.
These photos will be added to specific
production pages as time allows and in the
next few years the higher resolutions of these
images will be placed on the Chester Fritz
Library Digital Collections site.

I want to take a moment to give thanks to Curt
Hanson, Department Head for the Elwyn B.
Robinson Department of Special Collections for
his support and guidance. I would also like to
acknowledge Aditja Upadhayay for his work
scanning hundreds of photos. A final thanks to
Marilyn Gregoire who did a lot of the
background work to get this all together.
