    -December 7- Japanese attack Pearl Harbor. World War II begins.

    -May 8- Germany surrenders to Allied Forces.
    -August 15- Japan surrenders to Allied Forces. World War II ends. The end of the war brings record number of students to UND through the GI Bill.

-March 10- Woodworth hall destroyed by fire. Dakota Playmakers had completed a performance of Maxwell Anderson's 'Winterset' just an hour or two before the fire began.
